Paul Ferguson's 'Horse To Follow' Series #2
Paul Ferguson, the author of Jumpers To Follow, has been locked away all summer putting together the essential guide to the Jumps season. However, now the publication has headed to print ahead of the 18th September release date, Paul has had the chance to travel to the top yards across the UK and catch up with leading trainers ahead of the upcoming season.
Harry Derham spent six years as assistant trainer to Paul Nicholls, but last year decided to take out a full trainers license and forge his own path. Paul made a visit to his new state-of-the-art training facility at Upper Farm Stables to catch up with the burgeoning trainer.
Harry himself nominated French import Mojo Ego as his horse to follow for the upcoming season. Purchased by Highclere, he was a winner on the flat Jean-Claude Rouget last term before finishing fifth in a Group 3, and he will embark on a juvenile hurdle campaign.
Stable jockey Paul O'Brien has nominated The Blueberry One, an unraced horse by top national hunt sire Blue Bresil, the sire of superstar Constitution Hill. Grand National-winning trainer Oliver Sherwood called an end to his training days at the end of last season but has since joined Harry Derham as assistant trainer. His nomination is Ascending Lark, who has arrived from Ireland and showed some promise in bumpers last term. One to follow in mares' novice hurdles, the Jane Seymour at Sandown is a provisional target.
